Rereata Mākiha

Rereata Mākiha (Ngapuhi/Te Arawa/Rangitane) is an innovator who develops groundbreaking ways to impart knowledge, and he has committed his life to Te Ao Māori. He is an expert in ancestral knowledge and was a broadcaster and reporter in the early 1970s, helping to revitalise te reo Māori. Encouraging Mahi tiaki Taiao, or environmental activity, he has spearheaded the resuscitation of whare wananga teachings and customs pertaining to the environment.

Rereata has recently been actively involved in increasing awareness of and use of the Maramataka, or Maori Lunar Calendar, collaborating with others to impart its significance in communities around Aotearoa.
