Whānau Ora Navigator – Kahu Taurima (Full Time | May Start)
Kahu Taurima supports hapū māmā, pēpi and whānau through the first 1000 days, with a focus on health, development, and overall wellbeing.
We are looking for a Whānau Ora Navigator to join the Kahu Taurima service, working alongside hapū māmā, pēpi, and whānau to manage a caseload, support early years wellbeing, and navigate access to the services and supports whānau need.
Our mahi is led by kaupapa Māori and prioritises whānau with higher needs and barriers to accessing services, while remaining open and responsive to all whānau we support.
What you’ll be doing:
Hold and actively manage a caseload of whānau
Work alongside hapū māmā, pēpi, and whānau in the early years
Support whānau experiencing barriers such as:
Limited access to health and social services
Housing insecurity and financial hardship
Perinatal mental health or addictions distress
Disconnection from primary care, LMC, or immunisation services
Engage and support pāpā/tāne in their role within whānau
Support whānau to set goals and take practical steps towards them
Plan and facilitate wānanga based on what whānau need
Connect whānau to services, opportunities, and supports
Build and maintain relationships across providers and the community
Keep case notes, reporting, and data entry up to date

Whānau are self-managing and making informed decisions
Whānau are living healthy lifestyles
Whānau are participating fully in society
Whānau are confident in te ao Māori
Whānau are moving towards economic stability and opportunity
Whānau are cohesive, resilient, and nurturing
Tamariki have strong, healthy early foundations
What we’re looking for:
Experience working with whānau, hapū māmā, or young children
Strong relationship skills — able to engage, build trust, and hold boundaries
Able to manage a caseload and stay on top of admin
Confident facilitating wānanga or group sessions
Strong networking skills and ability to navigate services
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environment
Strong computer skills – case noting, reporting, and data entry are a must
Understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga, and whānau-centred practice
Focused on empowering whānau, not doing the work for them
Full driver licence essential

About the Role:
As a Kaiwhiriwhiri Whānau, you’ll walk alongside whānau, helping them to navigate life’s challenges and achieve their goals. You’ll support whānau to dream big, plan ahead, and access the services and resources they need to thrive.
This role is grounded in manaaki, kōrero, and action – building strong relationships and providing practical, wraparound support in a way that is culturally safe, strengths-based, and whānau led.
What You’ll Be Doing:
• Working one-on-one with whānau to develop tailored plans for change and wellbeing
• Supporting whānau to access housing, education, health, employment and social supports
• Advocating for whānau needs and aspirations
• Building trusting relationships based on aroha, tautoko, and tikanga Māori
• Collaborating with other services and kaimahi across Te Kōhao and beyond
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
• Is passionate about empowering whānau Māori
• Has strong communication, relationship, and problem-solving skills
• Can work independently and as part of a team
• Is comfortable working in kaupapa Māori environments and with te reo me ōna tikanga
• Has a full driver’s licence and is confident navigating systems (MS Office, case notes, referrals etc.)
• Experience in social services, health, education or community work is a bonus – but the right attitude, values and heart for whānau are essential
