achievement of their plans. Whānau māori have wide-ranging aspirations, and

we need to become aware of these diverse goals and support their achievement

where appropriate and able to do so. The Manaakitanga Service provides

an opportunity to test this through tracking “How much we do, How well we do

it, and if anyone is better off.

  • Our whakapapa with Kirikiriroa Marae forms a crucial part of our point of

difference for our Manaakitangata Service. Here we can immerse tāne māori

from Ara Poutama Aotearoa to reconnect with their whānau, Hapū, Iwi, Te reo

me ōna tikanga, pōwhiri, whaikorero, waiata, karakia, tangihanga, kai, wairua,

mau rākau, kapahaka. Te Whare Puutikitiki o Te Kōhao will be embraced by the

cultural connectedness that the Marae upholds.

  • Our Manaakitanga Service will wrap a korowai of certainty around every

individual and his whānau. This includes the use of existing restorative justice

practices, including Te Pae Oranga Iwi Panel to manage small issues with the

police, as a successful alternative to returning to prison. Iwi panels are held at

Kirikiriroa Marae. This same korowai is wrapped around the entire whānau as

we aim to reengage them with their tāne. Access to Whānau Ora initiatives will

be extended to the supporting whānau to give them every chance of success in

    the reconnection and reengagement journey.
