Improving Whānau Health & Wellbeing where we Live, Learn, Work & Play

Healthy Families Te Ngira: Driving Systems Change for Wellbeing.

Healthy Families is a large-scale prevention approach that brings together community leadership to drive collective action for better health in the places we live, learn, work, and play.

Our vision is for all New Zealanders to experience environments that make the healthy choice, the easy choice; supporting access to nutritious kai, encouraging physical activity, promoting smokefree lifestyles, reducing alcohol-related harm, and strengthening mental wellbeing and resilience.

A healthier Aotearoa begins in our everyday spaces. When our environments support wellbeing, tamariki thrive in learning, workplaces become more productive, people feel healthier and happier, and communities flourish.

Healthy Families Te Ngira works to accelerate innovation, strengthen collaboration, and drive system-level change across our communities.

By shaping healthier environments, we’re building strong foundations for future generations.

We Do…

  • Focus on preventing chronic disease through systems change

  • Grounded in the places we live, learn, work, and play

  • Investing in a workforce that enables sustainable change

  • Supporting and empowering community-led action

We Do NOT…

  • A provider of health services or direct interventions

  • A programme, project, or short-term campaign

  • About delivering services to communities rather than enabling change with them
